Chairman of the General Assembly, Church of God in Christ
Bishop L. F. Thuston
During the 109th Holy Convocation of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC), Bishop L.F. Thuston was elevated as the Chairman of the General Assembly after the untimely passing of Bishop James W. Hunt Sr. This elevation occurred during the church's quadrennial elections at which time Bishop Thuston was serving his second term as the Vice Chairman. Thuston brings an abundance of experience to the position including a history of service to his COGIC denomination as Dean of the National Youth Department, Dean of the International Adjutant Corp, Doctrinal Committee Chair for the Board of Bishops among other titles.
He continues his pastorate at the Historic Boone Tabernacle Church of God in Christ in Kansas City, MO as well as Mason Temple Institutional COGIC in Kansas City, Kansas. He also faithfully maintains his role as the Jurisdictional Prelate of Kansas East.
Overview of the General Assembly
The General Assembly is known as the Legislative Body of the Church of God in Christ which currently includes approximately six million members. It is the highest of the three branches of Government within the church and dates back to the leadership of Overseer Charles Harrison Mason. The COGIC church is currently the fifth largest denomination and dates back to the pre-Azusa era.
